Don’t lie, some of you are.
So, you write porn? That is the first response I get from people when they find out that I write erotic stories. After they fix the shocked look on their faces, of course. My response? Well, yes, but can we call it romance? Because after all I am a firm believer that romance is not dead. Let’s take it one step further and think of it as romance with a little spice…I’m not going to lie. Sometimes it's a lot of spice.
With the spicier side of things, a whole new world of people comes out of the woodwork. Those people who are here for the nudes. When I started putting myself out there, I immediately realized that there was a very fine line I was going to have to walk, between just enough and too much sex. In my writing I mean, because let’s be honest, is there such a thing as too much sex?
The first day I created my social media I got a message from a complete stranger asking to eat my pussy. I mean, really? Now, I know that most likely, that gentleman would have reached out to me with his request regardless of my profile saying I was an erotic author.
Though, when I go out onto the world wide web in search of places to attract new readers, more often than not I find myself in the seedy underworld of the dark web. Down some rabbit hole on Reddit or Fetlife. I quickly post a few of my spicier lines with a link to this blog in the hopes I can get someone to follow me back here and click that little subscribe button. (Shameless plug, if you haven't already, please do subscribe, I promise you'll only get an email when I release a new post. No annoying spam.)
Those are the people, the ones who follow my breadcrumbs back from the kinky side that I’m talking about, they’re here for the nudes. They’re the kinky folks who love to read whatever I come up with about BDSM, D/s, CNC and all of that. I feel a kinship with them because I have learned so much through those avenues and they are a community that is extremely helpful when given the opportunity, for the most part. There are always a few bad apples in the bunch, am I right?
My husband asked me last night if I was sure I wanted to do this, I thought about it a lot. To be honest I’ve thought about it a lot in the months since I finished my first book. Afterall, I had a lot of time to think between the time I finished my work and all of the crickets waiting for publishers and agents to respond back to me.
My final answer? Yes.
I'm not going to let the few discourage me. I have spent years reading series after series of steamy romance books on Amazon, from Barnes and Noble and any snip-it I can get my hands on through community forums. I want to be one of those writers. I want to be the one who makes you want to keep coming back to the same stories over and over again because you just couldn't put it down and it was so hot that when you did put it down you ran off to your bedroom to find your partner and screw their brains out.
A friend of mine told me once that I write sex scenes like that, and her husband was very appreciative. Let's hope she wasn't just trying to make me feel better about the trash I had just asked her to read and that you all feel the same way.
My point? Whether you're here for the nudes, you clicked in the wrong link on Google, or because I've somehow managed to keep you coming back for more, I'm glad you're here and I hope you'll stay. Because I'm for sure going to keep it up on my end and I'm not going to let those few bad apples discourage me from writing what I love.
Remember to embrace your inner kink!
